Young Voices – Paths to the Golden Highway, Friday 22 June, 6.30pm

Kicking off a series of events as part of Praxis New Voices Festival 2012 musicians from the Grand Union Orchestra, London’s pioneering world music/jazz ensemble, will be joined by students from Mulberry School for Girls and St Paul’s Way Trust School in a unique musical performance, Paths to the Golden Highway! Join us in a celebration of the East End that unites musicians of all ages and cultures on a single stage, in a blend of Bengali songs, Indian ragas, South African township jazz, Caribbean calypso and reggae and Latin-American rhythms led by some great musicians – Yousuf Ali Khan (tabla), singer Goury Choudhury, South African trumpeter Claude Deppa and percussionist Carlos Fuentes. The evening will begin with a panel discussion on Human Rights with presentations from young students studying in the borough of Tower Hamlets.

Presented in partnership with Praxis Community Projects, Paths to the Golden Highway is a great way to start the New Voices Festival. Join us in this wonderful musical celebration of the spirit of the East End today!
