Jozef van Wissem is a Dutch minimalist composer and lute player based in Brooklyn. In 2013 van Wissem won the Cannes Soundtrack Award for the score of Only Lovers Left Alive at the Cannes Film Festival. Josef is renowned for his unusual approach to the Renaissance lute. Once the most popular of portable instruments, now a couple hundred years on, Van Wissem brings it back to life complimenting its past with a late Renaissance influence while merging his own distinct contemporary folk stamp on it.
