The ringing room becomes an interactive installation, providing the unique opportunity for its visitors to generate personal mantras to the everyday. It offers a space to stand still and reframe banal, worldly themes as celestial and of greater importance.
Using the repetitive nature of the mantra to amplify meaning, visitors can collaboratively and multi-sensually layer these themes, constructing new significance to the point of nonsense, with everything becoming devotional.
Bearing reference to faith-related sound making as a practice, method of structuring routine and thought, and the historic role it has played in prompting prayer, the installation encompasses sonic, visual and tactile elements.
