St John’s looks forward to the 17th improvised jazz evening hosted by Bitten By A Monkey!
Bitten By A Monkey’s guest soloist will be deranged genius saxophonist James Allsopp.
It’s only ten years since James first sprang to public attention as a founder member of the genre-busting jazz group Fraud, which went on to scoop numerous awards. Since that time, James has gone on to work with the likes of Kit Downes and Andrew Plummer, as well as leading his current ensemble Golden Age of Steam.
James is known for his lightning wit and daring reconnaissance missions to the outer limits of saxophone technique. On Thursday 10th he will be pitting his titanic efforts against the glorious acoustic of Sir John Soane’s only known music venue!
This is the seventeenth in a series of gigs at St John’s organised by the London improvising trio Bitten by a Monkey–
Dylan Bates on violin, xaphoon, saw & bongos,
Roland Bates on piano & melodica
& Steve Myers on great bass recorder.
They will also be performing, with and without James Allsopp.
St John’s licensed cash bar will be open throughout the evening.
